I’m so excited to share this conversation with
. In 2023, Carina did The Artist’s Way alongside +100 of you through the Little Things study group I created. During that three-month intensive, she sold a book! Two years later, not only is her book The Last Great Heir out—it’s a New York Times best seller and a Barnes & Nobel pick of the month. It was such a joy to connect with Carina and hear about her inspiring journey to NYT best seller. Some of the topics we dig into are:
How The Artist’s Way helped her
Her writing process, including routines, schedules, and writing with a full-time job
Her approach to craft, including character work, breaking story, and outlines
The business of writing, including dealing with publishers, social media, and finding out she might become a NYT best seller… and then working really hard to make it happen
How it feels to have her childhood dreams come true
What creative and business advice she has for writers just starting out
P.S. I have big plans for this podcast, but I’m still working on my audio set-up. Right now I’m doing all of it myself, editing, recording, producing, etc., so please be patient with me… but also get excited for more conversations with inspiring creators and better audio!

Beyond her career as a best-selling novelist, Carina is a food writer and a content creator. She’s a delightful follow on TikTok and Instagram for anybody who loves eating, cooking, and books. (So, I think everyone who subscribes to this newsletter?)
I read The Last Great Heir prior to our conversation and flew through it in a weekend. It’s a fun, female-led fantasy full of distinct world-building magic. It’s perfect for a young reader, so parents, put it on your list!
Enjoy this conversation and share with a friend who would like it, too!
