"But having a partnership does not mean that my commitment to enriching my own soul is over." Love this line! And the Sagittarian spirit of adventure is so real. Totally relate. Thank you for sharing your story :)

So happy you relate and enjoyed this! Thank you for sharing. I actually posted a podcast yesterday that ended up delving into a similar sentiment -- we often see our life partners as the end of our own journey, but that can be a pretty lonely and isolating perspective! It's hard to expect one person to fulfill your soul forever. That's work we must do our own, too. And yes, this is a Sag-Sag-Aries talking ;)

Ali, A wonderful & inspiring post! You have much to teach others-especially women!

Love this. It's unfortunate so many people unwittingly subscribe to arbitrary social norms that dictate what can't be done alone: going to the movies, eating at restaurants, traveling, etc. All those things are great alone and with others. Enjoy!

I completely agree! I loveee going to the movies alone. And traveling alone can be so inspiring, too... having to figure out what YOU want and not living for anybody else. There's a reason why "artists dates" (solo dates with yourself) are one of the the requirements in The Artist's Way!

Loved this post, I'm with you! I LOVE travelling solo and I also have long term partner/ fiancé, Bloody Good Bloke, who I adore and love spending time with! I spend about 30% of the year travelling without him (and have done so for many years, with my ex partner too). I feel that travelling and having solo adventures and alone time makes both me and our relationship richer and more vibrant.

No matter how much I love being with BGB, I sometimes find I lose sight of myself and what matters to me and what inspires me when I don't get enough alone time. Then when I'm alone for long enough, it's like the cotton wool is clearing out of my brain, and everything feels crisper and fresher, including our relationship when we come back together.

"They never mention that about fear. That it comes later. That adrenaline doesn’t let it emerge until you are safe. It’s one of the many ways our bodies are magic." This whole piece is so stunning Ali!!!
