Welcome to the objectively best newsletter + creative community on the internet
This is a newsletter where I write about my experience being human, as well as a community space for creatives who are invested in their work & well-being.
Hi! I’m Ali, an Award-winning and losing TV writer (The Morning Show), director and producer (Comedy Central), and actor (The End of Us, SXSW). As a filmmaker, my online video work has garnered over 1 billion views. As a journalist, my online writing has appeared in Talkhouse, Vulture, BuzzFeed News, Hello Giggles, The Hairpin, and more.
I love teaching and building communities: I’ve lectured in Screenwriting at Chapman University & Columbia University, created Write & Flow retreat center, and am a certified Yoga teacher who knows from experience that taking care of yourself mentally, physically, and spiritually directly benefits your creativity and happiness. Which is exactly what I explore in this space.
Little Things is a newsletter about what it means to be human. It’s dedicated to the intersection of creativity and well-being, written from a grounded perspective that incorporates the realities of capitalism and culture.
I share honest, inspiring, and funny thoughts about what it means to be alive and creative in today’s world. Little Things pushes against BS narratives around well-being and instead explores it as a necessary part of creative living. You know when you actually do start the day with 20-minutes of Yoga or journaling and you’re like… wait, this really does make a huge difference?! Fuck. Now I have to do this more. That feeling is basically this newsletter.
If you want a good place to start, this is my most popular newsletter, which sums things up pretty well:
Beyond candles, topics include the process, craft, and business of making art, film, TV, books, travel, mental health, wellness, creativity, and all the other things that make life worth living.
“Little Things is a remix of the literary salon. An antidote to creative loneliness. A therapy session. Cocktails with a friend. Ali shares tips and insights with optimism and humor. If you're a writer looking for community, this is a great place to start.” — Pablo Andreu
More than a newsletter, Little Things is a community space for creatives to learn and grow together.
My favorite part of writing Little Things is our thriving creative community. There are hundreds of paying subscribers invested in their work and their well-being. We practice what we preach through community experiences, like doing The Artist’s Way or group meditations together. These opportunities are for paid members, who also get lots of other perks.
Here’s what you get from your membership:
Paying for your subscription is how to sustain this community and this publication. It means you are investing in what you value. It means you’re supporting an artist who has built a safe, inspiring, genuinely helpful space in an industry with zero stability.
If you’re unemployed or underemployed but want to join one of our community experiences, please reach for a comped membership (no explanation needed).
Here are some testimonials from some paying subscribers:
“Ali Vingiano’s newsletter about finding an agent or manager—and whether you even need one—is reason enough to become a paid subscriber to Little Things.” — Ben Blacker of Re:Writing
“I find your newsletters so beautifully done. Really inspiring and insightful and so well-written! It feels just so high-quality in terms of the whole way it’s executed.” — Joyce
“I get *so much* out of your newsletter! I’m constantly talking about it to my writer friends and it has such a good community vibe!” — Carina
“Little Things' is about the *big* things in a working writer's life, like regaining faith in your own work, & negotiating the knocks of a whirlwind industry - all hard-won, reliable advice from someone in the trenches doing that work every day, delivered with kindness and wit.” — Mike Sowden of Everything Is Amazing
