Do You Actually Need An Agent or Manager?

If you can't find representation, do you stand a chance in Hollywood? I vote yes.

First a few things!

  • Single rooms on the Greece retreat are sold out. Since I’m capping this one at 15 people, there are only 3 spots left: 2 in a triple room, and 1 in a double room. Reach out very soon if you want one!

  • HOW GOOD WAS THIS WEEK’S The Last of Us? Here’s how the director pulled off one of the decade’s greatest TV episodes.

LET’S TALK ABOUT AGENTS AND MANAGERS

There’s a sense of hopelessness when you’re trying to break into TV, and it often feels like finding representation is the singular solution. The beacon of hope. The proof you are worthy. The path of success. The most common question I receive from students is: How do I find a manager?

I wrote about how to find representation and how I first got signed when this newsletter was still a little baby learning to walk (see below). Today, I’m writing about if you even really NEED reps in the first place. What will they do for you, and what can you do for yourself?

Ask Ali: How Do I Find Representation?
Hi, I’m Ali and this is Little Things. My advice column is for paying subscribers only. You can upgrade your subscription at any time. Hi Ali, Thanks for your newsletter and particularly the advice part! I’m a comedy writer or ~aspiring~ you could say. Even WA jobs feel… impossible?! I’ve reached out to some managers but haven’t had any luck. Is there a right way to go about trying to find representation? Any advice you have would be rad…
