I made a goal this year to read 100 books. It’s proving as hard as it sounds. I knew audiobooks would help me stay on target… but I didn’t like them. Granted, I’d only listened to Harry Potter (incredible on audio, obviously), like, half of Sapiens (too easy to space out), and the first chapter of Gravity’s Rainbow (an unhinged choice.)
Then in February I listened to Daisy Jones & The Six off a friend’s recommendation. Holy shit, that audiobook is great. It turns out some books are even better on tape. I just hadn’t found the right ones. I did some digging. I started listening. I grew obsessed. Now I listen to audiobooks when I walk my dog, when I drive, when I cook dinner… basically, all the time. I love that I can escape to another world and finish a book in around 6-12ish hours (I also always listen a little faster, on 1.1-1.3 speed). And it’s absolutely helping my goal. In March I read 13 books, and 7 were via audio.
